At the Soup-ilicious Workshop, you can learn how to create Homemade Soups From Your Vegetable Garden on Oct. 25, 2014 from 8:30am to 12:30pm at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Allegany County Belmont Office.
There’s frost on the pumpkin and the days are growing shorter. What better way to ward off that Fall chill than with a bowl of hot homemade soup? Let the Master Gardeners from Cornell University Cooperative Extension show you how to make delicious soups from the vegetables and herbs grown in their home gardens.
- Debbie MacCrea will be creating borscht, which features beets, beef, cabbage, sour cream and dill.
- Brenda Starr will show you how to prepare New England fish chowder with potatoes, onions, fish fillets, cream, carrots, and an array of homegrown herbs in a delicious fish stock.
- David Shaut and David Chamberlain will be cooking a squash soup with (yes, you guessed it) squash, leeks, and a variety of spices.
- Mary Lu Wells will teach you how to create a Mexican red bean soup with beans, barley, tomatoes, onions, chicken broth, and herbs.
- Terry Haas will demonstrate the art of making a soup stock out of chicken, the basis of many a great soup.
Following the demonstrations, you will be able to sample all the flavorful soups with homemade breads provided by Carol Sitarski and Sheri Gregory. So, bring an apron and enjoy another “Experience in the Kitchen” presentation with the Allegany County Master Gardener Volunteers. Space is limited and pre-registration is required, so signup soon.
