If you grow fruit trees, it’s important to know how to prune them correctly to promote yearly fruiting and reduce disease problems. In this hands-on workshop, the Fruit Tree Pruning & Grafting Workshop on Saturday, April 2, 2016, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, at a local orchard, pruning and training techniques will be demonstrated for newly-planted and young trees. The workshop will begin in the barn, where participants will learn how apple trees are grafted and will have an opportunity to graft two apple trees to take home and plant.
Following the grafting demonstration we will head out to the orchard to learn about different training and pruning systems for young trees. We will be outdoors for approximately 60-90 minutes so please dress for the weather.
Note that this class will not cover pruning or renovation of large, mature or overgrown trees. A second Fruit Tree Pruning class on April 16 will cover pruning and renovation of large trees.
Pre-registration is strongly recommended so that we have participants' contact information on file in case the class is cancelled due to inclement weather. Call 607-272-2292 or email cab69 [at] cornell.edu to pre-register.
