Monday, September 12 (10:30 am-2:30 pm), “Diversify Your Marketing: Managing Grass Dairy and Meeting Consumer Needs.” This two-part field day at Sunny Cove Farm in Alfred Station (Allegany County)—certified organic since 2002—focuses on farm product marketing. The morning addresses managing a grass-based dairy, and includes a pasture tour and discussion on maintaining a balanced diet to promote animal health and quality milk production. Lauren Tonti from NOFA-NY Certified Organic LLC provides information on transitioning to organic and grass milk certification, and a representative from the NY Crop Insurance Education Team offers crop insurance information on supporting risk management. In the afternoon, Sunny Cove’s Jerry Snyder discusses meeting market demands with his products and shares the expansion of his farm offerings to accommodate generational transfer.
